Troubleshooting / FAQ

1. Can't run the game (can't access game menu)

1.1 Clicking the "Play" button in the store library does not launch the game::
This usually means you are missing the Visual Studio 2012 redistributable files needed to launch the game. Please install these redistributable files, especially the x86 package.
Visual Studio 2012 Redistributables:

If you still have this problem, see below section 1.2:

1.2 I can access the setup dialogue where I can find the resolution, but clicking the Play button does nothing.
You can go to the folder where the game is installed (hint here), and try run directly SOVIET.exe or SOVIET64.exe .

-
If a message about MSCVRT.DLL missing appears, install the VC 2012 and VC 2015 redistributables
-
If a message about a missing DirectX DLL appears, install the DirectX11 june 2010 redistributable
-
If XAudio_8.dll is missing, note that the 64-bit version can run only on Windows 8.1 or newer
-
If the game does not start, please send us the log.html file (see below for how to obtain helpful data bellow).

2. Start of the new game not working
Often, when the game is updated, the build doesn't update properly. Especially if your game was previously working but is no longer functioning, verify the Steam files. During the verification process, ensure your antivirus does not delete any files.

Also, ensure that in the main menu's bottom left corner, the game is running on your dedicated gaming graphics card (NVIDIA or Radeon). Integrated graphics cards, such as Intel's, are not officially supported. Note that the game may work with an integrated graphics card, but ensure you are not using too many mods. Additionally, your saved game may become too large, causing the game to stop working properly in such cases.

3. Crashes
-
Laptops: Game May Run on Integrated GPU (Graphics Card) Solution: Check the GPU information in the main menu in the bottom left corner. If an integrated GPU (such as Intel HD) is listed and your PC also has a gaming GPU (like NVidia 950M), follow the steps follow steps on this link to force the driver to run on the high-performance GPU instead of the integrated one. Apply this setting for both SOVIET.exe and SOVIET64.exe

-
Play the game in windowed mode. Ensure that the [x] Windowed option is checked in the setup when starting the game. Also, set the resolution to match your desktop resolution. If the [ ] Windowed option is not checked, you can go to the game folder (hint here), navigate to the media_soviet folder, and edit the config.ini file. Change $WINDOWED 0 to $WINDOWED 1.

-
Not Enough Video RAM Available The game may crash when saving or when building/deleting something, potentially generating corrupted saves. If you check log.html, you might see the red text CreateTexture2D FAILED.

-
Crash at a Certain Time After Loading Your Game if the game always crashes after the same period of time, even when you don't do anything, send us your save file via the support page.

-
Crash When Loading Your Saved Game Try starting a new game. If you can start a new game, send us your save file via the support page. If a new game cannot be started, see below.

-

4. How to get helpful data

DXDIAG
-
Press the Windows Start button.
-
Type "dxdiag" in the search bar.
-
Run the dxdiag application.
-
Click the "Save All Information" button. The resulting TXT file is the one we need.

LOG
-
Open the directory where the game is installed (hint here)
-
Locate the log.html file. This is the file we need.
It may be a good idea to include a log file if you cannot start a new game. Make sure you provide the log file from the crash—meaning that after the crash, do not launch the game again until you have sent us the log file. Since HTML files are not supported as attachments, please rename the log file to a TXT file or ZIP it

GAME SAVE
We usually need a saved game file in cases where the game works properly when starting a new game but fails with a specific saved game. If you cannot start a new game at all, please do not send us your saved games.
-
Open the directory where the game is installed (hint here)
-
Navigate to the "media_soviet" folder.
-
Open the "save" folder.
-
ZIP the folder containing the save file you would like to send us.
-
You can even create a zip save within the game.

Use the support page to send us the files

5. Other technical problems

-
Low FPS and performance problems
-
Check the GPU information in the main menu in the bottom left corner.

Window is Zoomed In / Cannot Reach the Edges with the Mouse Cursor
-
Play the game in windowed mode. Ensure that the [x] Windowed option is checked in the setup when starting the game. Also, set the resolution to match your desktop resolution.
-
If the [ ] Windowed option is not checked, you can go to the game folder (hint here), navigate to the media_soviet folder, and edit the config.ini file. Change $WINDOWED 0 to $WINDOWED 1.
-
If the setup is not working for you, go to the media_soviet folder and edit the config.ini file. Modify $INT RESOLUTIONX 1920 and $INT RESOLUTIONY 1080 to match your desired resolution.
-
Additionally, you may check this guide about Windows DPI settings and how to set exceptions for the game.

6. Gameplay problems
-
How the railway semaphores/signals work?
Visit this guide about railway semaphores and signals

-
No power buildings, or wiring, gas stations or schools available to build
You need when starting a new game, specify what you would like to solve/enable (Energy management, Education simulation)

-
Factory or rail construction office not works, or vehicle not unload resources there
Your storage is probably overfilled, when you can store more resources in the warehouse or storage - the maximum amount near resources show you how much you can store there if storage would be filled completely with this single resource, but you can have half of storage filled with one resources and another half with another resource and you will not get rest of place for the 3rd resource

-
My production chain not working - resources not pushed through the factory connections, conveyors or pipelines
Note: storages/warehouses are passive building, they can't push or take resources. For conveyors or pipelines you can place conveyor engines or pipe pumping station in-between storages (or other buildings) in order to get out resources from building A and push them into building B. For factory connection unfortunately there is no such functionality, we plan add a special functionality with forklift into warehouses, so they will able to transport resources this way

So this setup will currently not works ( <> - is the factory connection):
Factory A <> Storage A <> Storage B <> Factory B
(Factory A will push the resources to Storage A, but it will not push further to storage B, Factory B can take resources from Storage B, but it will be empty)

This setup will work:
Factory A <> Storage <> Factory B
(Factory A will push the resources to Storage, Factory B can take resources from Storage B, but it will be empty)

Also if the vehicle come to station or building, it can also take resources from neighbor buildings:
Factory A <> Cargo Station <> Factory B <> Factory C
When any vehicle come to load/unload resources in the Cargo Station it can load/unload also into/from Factory A or Factory B, but not into/from Factory C

A dumper cannot handle metal scrap or construction waste, and a flatbed truck cannot load plastic waste.
You need to check where these materials are stored. When plastic waste is stored in dumps, you need to use a waste truck to load it. The same applies to separated metal scrap; when it is stored in a waste dump, you need to use a waste truck. Although a dumper can load metal scrap or construction waste, it can only do so from aggregate storages, not from dumps. However, a waste truck can unload separated materials into aggregate storages or open warehouses. Also, separate plants output these materials into aggregate and open storages.

-
Why doesn’t the price of toxic or mixed waste match?
The price listed at the customs house is for 100% toxic waste. However, the waste may contain varying ratios of toxic and other components, so the price will not match.

7. Subscribed mods not appear in the game
In the main menu, go to Workshop, then select Subscribed Items and verify that the mod appears in this list.
If the mod is present but the build does not appear in the game, check the settings in the Mods tab on the left panel within the game. You likely have a setting that only favorite mods are shown in the build menu, or no mods are enabled at all.

If you have subscribed to a mod but it does not appear, first ensure you are using the same Steam account for both subscribing and playing the game.

Also, check the path where the mods are downloaded. Ensure that the mods are properly downloaded from the Steam Workshop and that both your game installation path and the mod installation path do not contain special characters, such as those with diacritics, Cyrillic (Azbuka), or Chinese and Japanese characters.

Example of install folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SovietRepublic

Example of folder where mods are downloaded:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\784150
